Companies should not be able to profit off pornographic content without verifying the age and consent of every individual in every video.

Bill C-270 Details:

Adds two offences to the Criminal Code:

01

Making pornographic material for a commercial purpose without verifying the age and consent   

02

Distributing pornographic material for a commercial purpose without verifying the age and consent OR in cases where consent has been withdrawn   

Those who fail to verify age and consent will face penalties including fines or jailtime. 

Provides aggravating factors for:   

01

Material that actually depicts minors or made without consent.   

02

Material that depicts obscenity (cruelty, violence) s163(8) or hatred towards an identifiable group s.318(4).  

Law Books

We must do more to prevent these videos from ever reaching the internet in the first place. As former NYT writer Nicholas Kristof asked:

"Why does Canada allow this company to profit off videos of exploitation and assault?"

The SISE Act puts the burden of due diligence and corporate responsibility on pornography companies rather than survivors and law enforcement.
